SIDE BY SIDE: NIHONMACHI SCENES - MEET THE CURATOR, BARBARA JOHNS
Meet Barbara Johns, the curator of the exhibit, Side by Side: Nihonmachi Scenes by Tokita, Nomura, and Fujii, on display in the George Tsutakawa Art Gallery. Barbara will make a special appearance in the gallery from 1:30-3:30PM on Sunday, January 5, 2025 to chat and answer questions.
A&NH/PI LEGISLATIVE DAY
Join the Asian and Pacific Islander Coalition (APIC) for a day of advocacy in Olympia! On February 13th, hundreds of community members from around the state will head to Olympia for a day of meetings with our legislators to discuss issues of concern to the A&NH/PI community, including immigration justice, civil and human rights, voting rights, environmental justice, education, access to healthcare, community development, and more!

REDLINING IMPACTS ON THE AFRICAN AMERICANS AND ASIAN AMERICANS IN CENTRAL SEATTLE
On Tuesday, December 10, gather, eat, and learn about the Redlining Heritage Trail, a collection of urban walks that highlight historic and cultural sites within the redlined neighborhoods of Central Seattle. Speakers Doan Diane Hoang Dy, Stephanie Johnson-Toliver and Diane Sugimura, who served as advisors of the Redlining Heritage Trails, will share about their experiences with redlining and how it has impacted African American and Asian American communities. This event is free and open to the public.

On October 31, filmmaker Jon Osaki will be back to show the trailer of his new film, Making Waves: The Rise of Asian America, that explores the vital role of Ethnic Studies, followed by the film, Not Your Model Minority. This event at Seattle Central College is hosted by Seattle Central College AANIPISI Center and co-sponsored by Seattle JACL, Tsuru for Solidarity and Wing Luke Museum.

On October 30, join filmmaker Jon Osaki for a film showing and panel discussion of Reparations, a film that explores the four-century struggle to seek repair and atonement for slavery in the United States. This event, at Seattle Central College, is hosted by Seattle JACL and co-sponsored by Seattle Central College AANIPISI Center, Tsuru for Solidarity and Wing Luke Museum.

Join us on Saturday, October 26, as we pay tribute to the Filipino pioneers who operated businesses in the CID and highlighting these five sites: CDA Burgos Lodge #10, Filipino Social and Improvement Club, Liberty Barbershop, Little Divisoria, and Manila Cafe. This event will include a presentation by Wing Luke Museum Preservation Consultant Cynthia Mejia-Giudici.
Panelists who lived and worked in the CID will share their stories.

On October 19, the Wing Luke Museum, Seattle Public Library and the South Seattle Emerald are hosting our We Can Be Heroes Voting Party -- along with visiting artist Aram Han Sifuentes -- and we hope you can join us! (Interpretation will be available in Cantonese, Khmer, and Vietnamese)

Join Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander American communities from around the state to celebrate our culture, our voice, and our vote. The free program will include a candidate forum among the top two contenders for Governor, keynote speakers, and cultural performances.

2024 “FROM HIROSHIMA TO HOPE” ANNUAL LANTERN FLOATING CEREMONY @ GREEN LAKE
On August 6, candle-lit lanterns will bring messages of peace and hope in this annual event that honors victims of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and all victims of violence. The gathering at Green Lake will begin at 6pm, with the family program at 7pm, concluding with everyone putting their lanterns in the water around 8pm. Lanterns will be provided and personalized by calligraphers (with Japanese characters and Gurmukhi script). The event will take place just south of the Bathhouse Theater, on Green Lake’s NW shore, at West Green Lake Drive North and Stone Ave North.
